A rapidly growing Law Firm in Accra is looking for a
MARKETING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER/ESS

The BD function supports the partners to generate revenue.

The person needs to have good research skills, have an understanding and experience of digital marketing and marketing strategy. We cannot advertise as lawyers so the marketing for law firms is somewhat different than in other sectors in Ghana.

We need someone who is relatively young, fresh and teachable.

2. Role Overview

2.1 To manage and perform the operational, strategic marketing, and business development of the firm including people management, employee engagement, and talent development.

3. Key responsibilities

3.1 Strategic planning and business strategy

Working with the Company’s partners to develop the Company’s strategic plan and business strategy, including:

(a) providing business analysis on the Ghanaian market and benchmarking of the Company’s performance against its peers and competitors;

(b) providing timely and accurate management and business information to facilitate effective decision-making and strategy development; and

(c) drafting and reviewing the strategy and business plans with the Company’s partners and senior non-legal staff.

3.2 Marketing and Business Development

(a) Organizing end-to-end pitch management for standard pitches.

(b) Maintaining current and accurate credentials and manage the related infrastructure.

(c) Drafting marketing collateral and briefings/client notes.

(d) Preparing client/sector/practice overviews to support client meetings and trips.2

(e) Working with partners to ensure marketing collateral (capability summaries, flyers, CVs etc.) are well maintained.

(f) Ensuring distribution lists for client newsletters, mailings/webinars and briefings to ensure our clients receive targeted material.

(g) Drafting/project management of the UK directory, awards and league table submission process.

(h) Doing client targeting/research – assisting in compiling research on existing and prospective clients.

(i) Designing and implementing business development initiatives in collaboration with the partners and other fee-earners.

(j) Organizing events / conferences / seminars by creating invitations following the brand guidelines, managing delegate lists, preparing documents for seminars packs, co-ordinating speakers, meeting and greeting clients and analysing delegate feedback.

(k) Preparation and periodic updating of the Company’s brochure, including sector and practice area specific variations;

(l) Preparation of tender, RFP responses;

(m) Preparation and timely dissemination of internal and external Company announcements;

(n) Organizing activities to promote and enhance the Company’s visibility and image in the communities served by the Company;

(o) Overseeing website content management, public relations and client relationship management systems;

(p) Organizing business and social functions of the Company;

(q) Managing client satisfaction surveys and initiatives;

(r) Tracking, reporting on and optimizing the Company’s business development efforts; and

(s) Performing any other related administrative duties that the BD/Marketing Subcommittee or the Managing Partner may assign.

3.3 Client care, risk management and regulatory compliance

Helping the Company to deliver excellence in client care including:3

(a) Building close working relationships with the lawyers and seeking regular feedback on output to assess quality, consistency and timeliness of delivery and identifying any areas for improvement.

(b) Helping drive continuous improvement, collating statistics and reporting back on trends, including the types and volumes of work supported for practices.

(c)Doing client feedback surveys.overseeing the implementation of the Company’s Client Care Manual and procedures set-out therein;

(d) Working with the partners to develop and establish client care and management policies and practices consistent with the Company’s broad strategic plan and business strategy; and

(e) Helping to create a culture and environment for exceptional client care and risk management to operate effectively throughout the Company.

4. Required skills and competencies

4.1 Excellent written and communication skills.

4.2 Excellent attention to detail, a pragmatic approach and a spark of creativity.

4.3 Basic understanding of business development and marketing practices and processes.

4.4 Strong time management and prioritisation skills and able to work within tight timelines.

4.5 Can-do attitude and enthusiasm, strong drive and initiative.Excellent presentation and project management skills.

4.6 Good emotional intelligence – should be self-aware, empathetic, even-tempered, tactful and have a strong personality.

4.7 Highly computer and IT literate.

4.8 Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Canva, Mailchimp required, familiarity with Joomla and WordPress is a plus.

4.9 Knowledge and understanding of LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter algorithms is a plus.

5. Other requirements

5.1 Experience

(a) Relevant BD/marketing experience, (experience in a law firm or professional services firm is a plus).

(b) Experience working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment.

(c) Managing administrative tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.4

(d) Experience working with people from different generations.

5.2 Qualifications

(a) minimum 5 years working experience in a marketing manager and/or business development role;

(b) bachelor’s degree or higher education; and

(c)certification courses in marketing and business development

SALARY

Base salary is 5.000 – 12.000 net, depending on the experience and value that you bring aboard

We have a 10%commission for anyone who brings in a client.
